Shed Seven: Love them or loathe them?

After many discussions down the years with fans of varying genres of music, one thing I’ve always found is that Shed Seven are a band you either love or loathe. Personally, I sit firmly and undeniably in the ‘love’ camp, leaving me bewildered when people express an apparent hatred of them! What is it that makes them great, or on the contrary, what makes people despise them?

With songs like ‘Dolphin’, ‘Bully Boy’, ‘Where Have You Been Tonight’, ‘Feathers’ and ‘Chasing Rainbows’, it’s hard to imagine how people could not warm to these Yorkshire lads. Should they be held in such high esteem as bands like The Charlatans and The Verve? Maybe the root of the problem could be their lesser releases such as ‘She Left Me On Friday’ and ‘Disco Down’, or maybe it’s something else altogether?

So, love them or loathe them, express your own personal opinion, or see what others have to say by clicking the comments section below.

  1. Top band mayte!!!! LOVE.

They were never from a musically fashionable city though so they were up against it a little there! (Oasis, Zutons (Er?!!), Kaiser Chiefs (Er??!!))…

Or anyone from London come to think of it.

Fashion is king in most instances for the 'mainstreamites' as we all know if Chris Martin whinged over a recording of Paltrow passing wind and that guy from Keane doing harmonies - PEOPLE WOULD BUY IT!!!

Anyway, they survived Noel Rock and crap record contracts and I think it may be down to poor marketing/management?!!!!!???? Top gigs last year.

They def had the songs to be recognised by more.

It would be nice to see another album soon!

Keep up the v.interest blog!! Fairer and better than NME!!!!

  2. Yep, I'm with you Thrasher and Mr Ugly, pitching up in the LOVE camp.

Alright, so Shed's lyrics may not be up there depth wise with the likes of the mighty Moz, but they have produced more than their fair share of top sing-along-able indie classics. They deserve at least a portion of the respect reserved for their contemporaries.

I'm sorry but 'If the music don't move ya' then you're 'missing out' (sorry!)
